Located in the pacific northwest, the state of Washington was named after George Washington, the first President of the United States.
Nearly 70% of Washington's residents live in the Seattle metro area, the center of transportation, business, and industry, and home to an internationally known arts community. The remainder of the state consists of deep rain forests and semi-deserts given over to intensive agriculture.
The Seattle-Tacoma-Bellevue metropolitan areas consist of approximately half the state's total population. The largest cities in the state include: Seattle, Spokane, Tacoma, Vancouver and Everett.
