Microdermabrasion Information

Sun, lifestyle, and age all take an incredible toll on the skin. Few people realize how very delicate the largest organ in the body truly is, and as such do not give much regard to how they treat it. Unfortunately the skin is often the first place to advertise how we have lived our lives, and years of fun in the sun and other exciting activities can affect the skin in ways that we never imagined. Fortunately, through a process called microdermabrasion we can reclaim our lost healthy, young looking skin.

Microdermabrasion is a relatively simple process akin to a painter's sandblaster. The surgeon uses a device that sprays thousands of tiny crystals across the skin on the face, gently removing the dead outer layer of skin. The dead skin is suctioned from the face, leaving new, younger looking skin in its place. For some patients, microdermabrasion may be combined with other treatments to create a newly rejuvenated and enhanced look.

Microdermabrasion, like many other skin rejuvenation procedures often takes more than one visit to fully realize your vision, but once it is complete you can say goodbye to fine wrinkles and blotchy skin.

Microdermabrasion Questions and Answers

How can I tell if I'm a good candidate for microdermabrasion?
If you suffer from skin that has been damaged by sun exposure or the aging process, you may be an excellent candidate for microdermabrasion. People who maintain busy schedules and are reluctant to undergo an invasive plastic surgery procedure are good candidates, because microdermabrasion treatments take very little time and are very safe. Additionally, microdermabrasion is an excellent alternative to chemical procedures for patients with sensitive skin. Speak with your plastic surgeon about microdermabrasion today.

Are the costs of treatment covered by insurance?
Speak with your insurance company and plastic surgeon to determine if your policy includes microdermabrasion coverage.

What are some of the risks of microdermabrasion?
Microdermabrasion is very safe. There are virtually no side effects and patients are left with a fresh, healthy looking glow to their skin.

What can I expect the day of treatment to be like?
Each treatment lasts from 30 minutes to one hour and does not require anesthesia. During the procedure skin is exfoliated and smoothed while dead skin cells are removed. Your plastic surgeon will explain the entire process in detail during your consultation.

How will I look and feel immediately following the procedure?
You will be able to walk out of your doctor's office and return to daily life without any problems after your microdermabrasion procedure. For most patients, damaged skin will be visibly improved after several treatments.
